Nestled in the delightful village of Hedley on the Hill in Northumberland, Medera Cottage is a quirky, dog friendly cottage. Situated on a quiet lane, this characterful cottage is perfect for relaxing retreats in the countryside.
Sleeping up to 4 guests, Medera Cottage is ideal for family holidays or getaways for small groups of friends. Boasting unlimited Wi-Fi, a wood burning stove, two double bedrooms and a beautiful location, this Northumberland bolthole will not disappoint.
Accommodation
In the lounge, you’ll find a really welcoming and homely feel. Traditional wooden beams add character and the wood burning stove is perfect for cosy nights in. You’ll also find a selection of DVDs, books and magazines so you can really make the most of your relaxing getaway. If you’d prefer to catch up on your favourite shows, turn on the TV to watch Freeview or connect to the unlimited WiFi.
Please note that the property has height restricted ceilings for anyone over 6 foot.
The kitchen is fully equipped for your self-catering stay with an Aga oven, fridge freezer, toaster, microwave and kettle. There is even the added luxury of a coffee machine! It is complete with a dishwasher and washing machine.
The property also benefits from a newly fitted boiler, meaning it is very cosy, especially with the Aga
Outside there is an enclosed garden. Perfect for al fresco dining, there is an outdoor dining area and a small BBQ. There is also space for storing bikes or golf clubs.
Head upstairs and there are two spacious bedrooms. With comfy, King size beds and premium bedding, you’ll enjoy a blissful night’s sleep at Madera Cottage. Please note the second bedroom is in the attic and accessed via steep steps.
The family bathroom has recently been refurbished and is located on the ground floor and has a WC, basin and bath with shower mixer tap.
Please note a cot and highchair can be provided on request.

With lots of country walks right from the door, you can take in the fresh Northumberland air on long dog walks or strolls with your loved ones. Madera Cottage has the best of both worlds as historic market towns like Corbridge and Hexham are just a few miles away. With independent shops, charming tea rooms, arts and culture, as well as bars and restaurants, so you won’t tire of discovering new places. Please note: there are no shops close by.
If you’re looking to explore the great outdoors, Madera Cottage is perfect. In the heart of Hadrian’s Wall Country, there are plenty of visitor attractions to enjoy. Sports enthusiasts will love fishing, golf, walking and cycling nearby. Kielder Forest Park lies 30 miles away with fantastic walking and sports activities along with the darkest night skies in England.
The breath-taking Northumberland coastline is also within reach. With its prestigious castles, beautiful harbours and golden sandy shores, it’s a great day out for all of the family.
Stocksfield and Hexham can be reached easily via bus from Hedley on the Hill. The 613 runs from Whittonstall to Hexham, with stops in different villages along the way.
The closest rail station is located in the small yet sprawling commuter village of Stocksfield which is situated close to the River Tyne, about 14 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne in the southern part of Northumberland. The village is served by the Tyne Valley Line, with trains running to Newcastle, Hexham and Carlisle.

Guests have full access to the full cottage. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe.
There is free parking for one car located on site. Further parking can be found on street and within 3o metres.
Please note the steps within Madera Cottage are quite steep and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues.

- 25% deposit upon booking and the remaining balance is due 60 days prior to arrival.
- If you make your booking within 60 days of arrival, full payment will be take upon booking.
- If you cancel more than 60 days prior to arrival, any funds taken will be refunded in full.
- Should you cancel between 60 days and 30 days of your arrival date, you will be liable for 50% of the full booking value.
- Cancellations inside 30 days are non-refundable.
- No security deposit taken however when your booking is confirmed, you will be asked to verify using the accommodation providers verification partner called ‘Superhog’. This is a free service and covers owners for any accidental damage. You will receive a link to Superhog within your booking confirmation email and the lead guest simply verifies using ID.
- A £25 management fee and a cleaning fee is in addition to the accommodation rate. This will be sent to you with your holiday quote.

- Guests should pick up after their dog and not leave any mess in any of the property or surrounding public areas. Muddy / sandy paws should be wiped before entering the building

- If the property has a bathtub, dogs are not allowed in the bath tub as their claws can cause damage
